Ministry to Children and Youth
The Foundation of Our Ministry
Deuteronomy 6:4-9: "Remember this! The Lord and the Lord alone is our God. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength. Never forget these commands that I am giving you today. Teach them to your children. Repeat them when you are at home, and when you are away; when you are resting and when you are working. Tie them on your arms as a reminder. Write them on the door posts of your houses and on your gates (Today's English Version)
Our Goals
To teach our children the Word of God, the traditions of our Christian faith, and our Anglican heritage.
To integrate children into the worship of the church
To help children find their place in our faith community and equip them for the work of service (their baptismal ministry)
To help children gain confidence in themselves and who they are as Christians
Our Mission Statement
Honour God and take care of one another
Our Motto
Watch us grow in Christ
Our Promise
We will love God with all our heart, soul, and mind.
We will love others as much as ourselves (Matthew 22:37)
Teaching Modules
Nursery: The specially-equipped room available to mothers, fathers and other caregivers with infants up to 3 years of age. It is co-operative, i.e., adults are required to stay with their infants while using this room), and has a change table, private washroom, high chair, playpen, and age-appropriate toys.
We're looking for ECE or equivalent to co-ordinate and run the nursery on Sunday mornings. Curriculum is provided. Help our children have fun learning about God, for a positive start to a lifetime of Christian learning. Contact the church office at 519-451-7780 or elam@golden.net for an application.
Juniors (JK-age8): Under the leadership of Julie, we are learning about Jesus, His life and times. Young Children and Worship is a programme, which presents both a visual and narrative approach to New and Old Testament stories. Crafts, games and snacks round out the programme
Intermediates (9-12 year olds): Diane brings unique Old Testament stories to life through drama, puppetry and the amazing narratives of our study manual, Bizarre Bible Stories by Dan Cooley. Snacks and crafts are part of this package.
Seniors (teens): Cecil and Charlene lead the class in studying the Bible as it applies to their everyday circumstances from bullying to peer pressure to dating.
Helping Others
The Sunday School also is involved in a variety of fund raising initiatives, including our own church, the local community, Canada, and some international interests. These include World Vision, Samaritans' Purse, St. Monica House (for young single moms) and urgent needs that may arise from time to time.
Safe Church
At ELAM, all adults involved with minor children must participate in the "Screening in Faith" process that includes a police background check. We also have an open classroom teaching area.
Our Calendar
Our Calendar includes the following events but not limited to these:
Christmas Caring
In November and December we will be once again involved in two projects to help others.
One is Operation Christmas Child in which shoeboxes are filled with erasers, pencil sharpeners, toothbrushes and other small gifts for poor children in the Third World.
Christmas Share is project of the Daily Bread Food Bank at St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral that provides gifts and Christmas dinner to the needy.
Cecil, Charlene, Diane and Julie look forward to meeting you this Sunday.
