New This Week

Thank you from the ACW to all member and friends of the ACW who worked on the Strawberry Social. Also Thank you to all those who supported this very social time. Both groups made 2008 Strawberry Sociall a great sucess.

Volunteers are needed for this summer's Morning Bible Camp in August.  If  you can  spare 90 minutes each morning from August 11 to August 15 to either supervise the craft or sports component see Diane Leask (519-453-8193)  The programme is all ready for you and the Sunday School will provide supplies. The children of the Parish and neighbourhood need YOU.  Get one or two friends and team-lead (even more  fun)  Once you've tried this you'll wonder why you never did it before. If you're not sure what you're  signing up for, contact Diane for details.  Looking forward to seeing you at MBC.

Storage Issues:  With the increasing number of groups in the parish, the accumulation of “stuff” and where to put it has begun to be a problem.  Parish Council and the property committee are working on ways to deal with the issue.  In the meantime, please be considerate of others when your “stuff” comes into conflict with theirs.  Open and courteous communication can resolve most problems.  If you’re not sure who to speak with, there are contacts for most groups on the back of the weekly bulletin.  If that doesn’t help, check with Cheryl in the office or speak with a warden.  Thanks for being patient and understanding while we work toward solving our storage problem.

An update on the last two breakfasts:  In May we had 62 attend and in June we had 70.  We will be  running the breakfasts in July and August as usual, on July 15 and August 19.  Thank you to all who have donated time, money or food.  Your generosity is so much appreciated.  For many of our guests this breakfast provides an opportunity to have a home cooked, nutritious meal and a time for socializing that they may not otherwise have.  The social aspect is also important.  One gentleman's day was made because someone talked to him.  He is alone in his apartment and he enjoyed the conversation.  Keep up the good work!  The Breakfast Committee

Fran Buck is excited to announce the birth of her great-nephew, Hunter Samuel Wiebenga, weighing 6lbs, 7oz.  Hunter and mom and dad, Crystal, and Willy, are doing well.  Many thanks for all your prayers while awaiting Hunter’s arrival.

Previous Announcements

The Daily Bread Food Bank at St. Paul's Cathedral is going green.  In order to promote good stewardship of our environment, Daily Bread is providing clients with re-usable bags and requesting that they bring them back on later visits to the food bank. If you are able to help out by donating re-usable bags, please place them in the Daily Bread bin in the Gathering Space and they will be taken downtown along with our regular food deliveries to the food bank.

All those interested in learning and working with the Social Justice planning team are reminded of the next meeting  on Sunday June 29 at 12:00.   Bring a brown bag lunch, Granny jars, coin wrappers, coin counting machine etc. and Ideas for new projects.

Looking forward to the summer, Rev. June Hough will be on vacation during the month of July.  Rev. Jenny Sharp will providing priestly coverage during that time.

The Counters’ Team is in need of another member.  If you can serve in this capacity, please speak to Mary Grant.

Please note that the convection oven in the kitchen is out of service until further notice, as parts needed for repairs are on order.

Please note that activities at ELAM are beginning to wind down for the summer.  The Quilters group has finished their work for this season.  Midweek Eucharist and Bible Study will resume on September 10.  The Sewing Group has finished for now as well.  Watch your bulletin in August for news of September start-ups.

The next scheduled Celebration of Holy Baptism will be Sunday, September 28.  Anyone interested in Baptism at that time should speak to Reverend June as soon as possible if you have not already done so.

For Audio-Visual Support Services for your event, please contact the Audio-Visual Technician on duty, or the Audio-Visual Team Leader, Phil Pentecost.  The Audio-Visual  Technicians for this week are Gerry Flynn & Howard Noble.

A schedule is being prepared for those who are willing and able to help cut the grass.  Last year we had three teams of two volunteers.  The riding mower is being serviced and will be ready to go very soon.  Please speak to Dave Robinson or Jerry Prosser if you can help with lawn maintenance.

New bus trip plans for “The Sound of Music”:  I am gathering names of people that would like to go to see “The Sound of Music” at The Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto next year.  I have two dates in mind: Wednesday, April 15th (approx. cost $130.00 per person) and Saturday, April 25th (approx. cost $170.00 person).  Prices include theatre ticket, bus, supper and all tips.  Please speak to me if you are interested in being added to my list.  Thanks.  Maureen Constable

PASSION FOR PENNIES is an ongoing fundraiser sponsored by the Ministry to Children.  There is a coffee canister on the information kiosk in the gathering space.  Round up all your old, stray, dusty pennies and drop them off in the canister.  It is cleared weekly and at the end of each three month period the pennies are matched by an equal gift from the Sunday School and forwarded to one of the charities we support.  The next gift will be sent after the Annual Teachers' Meeting  in August when a recipient will be chosen for that date.  We thank you for your continued support....every penny counts!

Mark Payne’s CD, “When It’s All Been Said And Done”, is available now!  The cost is $15.00 and you can get one directly from Mark, or you can pick them up at the Upper Room Book Store and L’atelier Grigorian here in London.  If you’d like to hear samples, go to www.markpayne.ca and follow the links.  You can also purchase a CD or digital download at Mark’s website.

Hand sanitizers are available throughout the ELAM building.  Please use them in a thorough manner when needed.  Everyone is asked to be watchful that young children use the sanitizers safely as the contents can be harmful if misused.

Check your mail slots frequently—BUT, since most mail slots are shared by at least two families, please make sure that what you remove from the slot is actually yours!   As well, please mark the recipient’s name clearly on each item you put in a mail slot.  Thank you.

A Reminder:  Counters need privacy & quiet.  Directly following the 10:00 a.m. service, the Counters are in the General Office counting the offering and preparing the deposit from the services   on that  Sunday.  Please respect their time and do not disturb them in anyway. If you need in the office for any reason, please wait until they have completed their work. Your co-operation is appreciated in this matter.  Thank you.

Hall & Kitchen Clean-up:  For a few weeks running it was announced in the bulletin regarding the way the Parish Hall and Kitchen were to be left after an event, meeting, activity etc., held by any groups/committees, regarding putting away of the tables and chairs and dirty dishes.  It was decided at the Council meeting held on Wednesday, March 26, that we would revise this arrangement.  We would ask that you leave no more than six tables up and that they be arranged together in the centre of the Parish Hall (not spread out all over).  Those coming in after your event can then either make use of the tables as they see fit, just leave them or move them slightly out of their way.  As to the dirty dishes,  it is too costly to run the dishwasher for just a few cups.  However, if there is a full tray, it would be appreciated if they were put through the dishwasher and not left for the next group to deal with.  We thank you for your consideration of others needs.
